International - a very smooth dance in closed hold
Viennese
Waltz
1,2,3 The quicker Waltz. Best to be counted 1,2,3,4,5,6 so as not to feel too rushed. Think of water rushing up on the beach & reseeding.
American - floating down the floor in both closed & open positions
International - closed hold, look of tradition
Quickstep SQQS Quick moving exciting dance to Big Band type music

East Coast
Swing
1&2,
3&4,
5,6
Playful fun dance. Quite Useful especially in Single-Time form (SSQQ)
West Coast Swing

Basic
1,2,3&4,5&6
Slower Swing. Can be anything from hip-hop to 80's to Blues to Sultry
Jive 1,2,3&4,5&6 Quickest of the Swing dances. Can be danced in a skippy sort of movement because of the speed.
Samba
1a2,3a4 Actually, there are multiple timings for Samba moves
Traveling Latin dance. Quick pase
Paso Doble   Dance of the Matador!
Merengue step on
every beat
Easy dance to pick up (do want to work on the action, however).
Can be fun getting caught up in knots & undoing them or dancing it very close & grindy.
Mambo/
Salsa
QQS "Mambo" is the original name & breaking on the 2 is the original timing.
Also known as Salsa...music has now changed a bit & can be danced on the 1, 2, or 3. Reccomend counting as QQS to help you master this quick pased dance (takes a bit of pressure off you leads!).
Different timings of leg action work also!
So many movements in this dance make life easier & double as styling!
Night Club
2-Step
QQS
SQQ
A newer dance developed for those night club songs that other dances didn't quite fit perfectly for. Similar to your movement if you were dancing by yourself. Can be danced to slow & quick songs. Can be learned at the same time as your Salsa!
Lindy Hop   The original form of Swing
Reggaeton   Depending on the song, can dance Samba or Salsa to it

Some fun mixes...
