Social Dancing Throughout the Evening
There will be plenty of social dance time mixed in throughout the evening, so, bring your dancing shoes!
Grand Finale Show with U.S. Professional Rhythm Finalists Decho Kraev and Bree Watson
This event in past years has lasted until 11p and sometimes until 12a
After event: Out to eat!

When should I get there?
You should plan on arriving a minimum of 1&1/2 hours before you are scheduled to dance. However, I would advise you arriving a minimum of 2 hours before. This gives the coach a chance to check over your grooming (or if they have offered to help, time to finish it) and helps when you get stuck in that inevitable traffic jam. At some competitions there is a professional hair stylist and or makeup artist available for hire (generally a minimum of $35 for each) by appointment.
For NWE-I (Natasha) will be prepping everyone (be ready by following the guidelines bellow) so be sure to arrive as early as possible as I have others to prep, warm up and compete with as well as perform myself. Plus, you want to be around to cheer your other teammates on!

When should you be ready to dance?
You should be ready to dance 1 hour before your scheduled dance time. By the rules, a competition can run up to a half hour early. You also want extra time to properly warm up your muscles, practice with your partner, relax & get out any jitters or even just a touch-up. In general, do not put your costume on until 1 hour prior unless otherwise told.

Few things to think of...
Remember to be prompt & prepared. You are representing, and should show the utmost respect for, yourself, your coach(es), your team and your school. Please come well dressed for when you are not dancing…have fun with it! Competitions are a great outlet to wear something elegant or clubby-cool.
Food & misc: Don’t forget snacks & water bottles…a hand towel is nice to have also.
For NWE-Within a block there is a Taco Bell, Wallgreens, McDonalds, Teriyaki and Starbucks as well as the bar (including food & drinks) in the Elks club. There is also a Fred Meyer & Subway very close driving distance (probably 5 minutes South on Lake City Way).

Programs are available at the event and cost anywhere from $5-$20…bring cash! Bring a highlighter & pen.
Video & Photo:
Some competitions have videographers (price ranges but usually begins at $10/dance) and photographers. Remember to order videos & photos before you dance (photos you are generally not obligated to purchase). You cannot video when a video company is present—unless given permission by the competition (sometimes youth categories are permissible). I believe there will be neither present at NWE so please do bring cameras if you have them for yourself & teammates who do not.

LADIES

Tan

Best to body scrub before. Rub in some lotion around knees, elbows, feet & hands—they tend to take in the tan more than other areas. Spray-on places usually have something for you to use called “Barrier cream. Leave tan product on as long as possible before showering (at least over night).
Option 1) wipe on the darkest tan you can find (they don’t make store-bought ones very dark) no later than Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Remember there is usually a separate one for face.
Option 2) Spray on Tan. Get level 3 Friday. Do not shower until earliest Saturday morning.

Hair

No prom hairdos! Doesn’t have to be slicked back but must be smooth & clean. If you have short hair, can be styled into place or to flip around as long as it doesn’t get stuck on your face and doesn’t bother you. If you are creating a bun, usually a great idea to purchase a hair circle at a beauty supply store that matches your color (doesn’t matter if curly or straight) + some hair nets. Check out pictures & videos online.

Products that are great (Beauty supply store usually has generic versions-except for the Aveda):
Liquid gel (liquid or low thickness)gel to create hairdo
Spiker “ICE” (finishing gel) to set (use VERY little!!!)
Aveda “Firmata” (hair spray) or Paul Mitchell “Freeze & Shine” (hair spray + shine) to finish setting
Shine spray or gel
Rubber bands-large & small (brown, black or clear)
Bobby Pins

Makeup

Bring your makeup & brushes. Usually helpful if you have at least moisturized. Even better if you already apply an approved foundation. Foundation-should be a color that matches the "tan you" & very covering ("Dermablend" I found to be the most covering). Concealer is great to have.
You need to purchase eyelashes (size #110 is good).
If you want to dive into makeup further...Bronzer is always good to have. MAC brand was made for performance. Around October they put out great little holiday packs!

Leggings

You can wear no leggings…just your tan.
Fishnets in a tan color that’s closest to the tan you will be (unless you are doing a black theme that includes black ones)
The only time you would do anything other than the above is if you feel like you need more support, you can wear hose under your fishnets. DO NOT GET CONTROL TOP or THIGH HIGHS!!! No matter how cute you are…this is not fun to watch! They must be purely hose or no more than a cotton patch you know where.

GENTLEMEN

Tan

Best to face (body also if you are exposing any other area) scrub before. Leave tan product on as long as possible before showering (at least over night)
Option 1) wipe on medium-darkest tan you can find (they don’t make store-bought ones very dark so don’t worry about looking Jamaican-you will just have a healthy glow & nobody will know) no later Friday & maybe repeat Saturday morning. Remember there is usually a separate one for face than the body products. Also remember to take this down your neck onto your chest. If you do any on your hands put lotion on them first.
Option 2) Spray on Tan. Get level 3 Friday. Do not shower until earliest Saturday morning.

Hair

Yes you do need product in your hair. No it does not have to be slicked down.
Products: gel, “hair wax” or “palmade” (most used), hair spray
